When watching the funeral I remembered what my Mother (Brian's aunt) had said about his birth.  Apparently his mother had Dropsy (water retention) as it was called then.  At first she did not realise that she was pregnant and just assumed the weight was water.  She went into the hospital for the birth but was warned that the twins would not survive once she left hospital.  She replied to the effect that if she was able to take them home they would survive.  Over the Autumn and Winter she made sure that the fires were lit in rooms that they went in (must have been expensive on coal) and the rest is history.
